Kicking Horse Things to Do in Winter
When you think of things to do in Kicking Horse, winter sports are number one! Skiers and snowboarders flock to Kicking Horse for its steep open bowls, well gladed trees and dry powder. You can also get some aerobic exercise at the Dawn Mountain Nordic Centre, just a few minutes walk from the Day Lodge. And for festive fun in the sun, check out the Sun Splash Funk Festival in early April, which features old-school ski wear, dummy downhill, slush cup and live music.
Kicking Horse things to do for families are also amazing. For a great family outing, try the two and four kilometre snowshoe trails are located off the Palliser Trail road. Or take the family snowmobiling with one of three snowmobile operators in the Golden area. Both independent rentals and guided tours are available, and the trails are second to none.
Kicking Horse is also a perfect winter destination with younger kids, with a fun Kids Zone and the Minute Maid Tree Trails for little rippers. They can spend an hour at the Tube Zone near the base or grab a pair of skates and head over to the outdoor ice rink, right in the middle of the village. There’s a fire pit and warming hut on site and a great ski village vibe. At Kicking Horse, things to do cover all ages and interests!
A popular dining experience in Kicking Horse is taking the gondola ride from the base of the mountain to the Eagle’s Eye summit. The ride takes less than 15 minutes. At the top is ‘Canada’s Highest Dining Experience,’ the Eagle’s Eye Restaurant and Bar, perched at 2,350m overlooking the spectacular Dogtooth Range, serving spectacular nosh three times daily.
