Mountain biking in Kimberley is no exception, as the mature forests and close mountain ascents provide as much fun as one can have on two wheels. Here are our picks for the best mountain biking trails in Kimberley:

1. North Star Rail Trail: Kimberley to Cranbrook

The North Star Rail Trail is a new paved pathway connecting Kimberley and Cranbrook.
This 25km trail follows the old rail bed of the Canadian Pacific Railway, which has recently been removed. The railway was originally used to service the old Cominco mines in Kimberley, providing a route to transport ore to the company’s smelter in Trail, BC. Today, this route is an awesome way to see the Rockies and explore the pristine forest and St. Mary’s River by bike.
The smooth pavement and slight incline/decline make this trail accessible for people of varying fitness levels, and even families with children. It’s also ideal for rollerblading, jogging, or walking with a stroller. There are plenty of places to stop along the way and enjoy the view while you refuel.
When visiting Kimberley, biking this path is a must, but you’re best to use it mid-day as it’s a popular commuter route in the mornings and late afternoons.
Location
The trail can be accessed in Kimberley at the junction of Rotary Drive and Archibald Street across from the Civic Centre.

2. Kimberley Nature Park

This urban park is one of Canada’s largest municipal parks and has an extensive trail system for hiking, as well as mountain biking. The trails within the park are a mix of purpose-built trails and old logging roads. They are maintained by a local group of volunteers passionate about keeping this park accessible for multi-use.
Kimberley Nature Park mountain biking trails range from beginner to intermediate, but there are no paved trails in the park, so it is not suitable for younger children or bike trailers/strollers. Bear in mind that the trails are multi-use, so use caution when cycling at high speeds and be mindful of hikers on the trail. For updates on trail conditions, check in at the Kimberley Tourist Information Centre.
