Rock climbing is one of the most adventurous and exhilarating ways to explore the mountains, and test your limits at the same time. There is nothing better than ascending a rugged mountain with just your bare hands and feet (and harness and rope, of course), reaching the top and taking in the rewarding view of Canada’s breathtaking scenery.
Thanks to its towering mountains, impressive rock and stunning views, Western Canada offers some of the best climbing destinations in the world.

Banff

Climbing in the Canadian Rockies might just be the best way to experience the magic of these majestic mountains. With a great selection of sport and trad climbing, Banff is a mecca for those looking to ascend the mountains via their own hands and feet. In town, Tunnel Mountain provides incredible sport climbing with breathtaking views of Banff, while The Back of the Lake offers spectacular quartzite and limestone climbing overlooking a stunning turquoise Lake Louise.
Want to enjoy climbing with a view? The Via Ferrata Ridgewalker Route on Mount Norquay offers just that, taking climbers high above the town of Banff.

Revelstoke

Revelstoke is packed with great climbing routes close to town, while those wanting alpine climbing routes with craggy summits steeped in an abundance of mountaineering history should head down the road to the birthplace of mountaineering in North America, Rogers Pass. In Revelstoke, Begbie Bluffs offers over 20 different crags from slab walls to overhanging jugs, while Waterworld offers a unique climbing experience with all climbs beginning just above the water line at Lake Revelstoke – you either have to rappel down from the top or access it from the bottom via boat!
Perfect for first-timers, the Via Ferrata – Discovery Route in Kicking Horse (just 2 hours from Revelstoke) offers an exhilarating climb up the mountain with few of the risks. Using a secure steel cable and harness, you will ascend the mountain with the help of gas pedals, steel steps and suspension bridges.
