New Year's Eve Celebrations in Canada's Best Ski Destinations!

New Year's Eve is shaping up to be a memorable event across Canada's western ski resorts! Here's our round-up of the best events happening to welcome 2017!

Whistler

Whistler Village is hosting a family-friendly wrist-banded event at the Whistler Conference Centre and The Arts Centre. Venues open from 6-11pm and feature an Early Kids Countdown and teen dance. FREE events begin from 11:30pm at Skiers Plaza, including a midnight fireworks display and special edition of Fire & Ice show, where skiers and riders jump through a ring of fire, accompanied by fire spinners and DJs. This is an alcohol-free event and FREE public transit is provided within Whistler from 6pm to 4am. Wristbands are on sale from December 1st online at whistler.com and in Whistler at The Arts Centre, Meadow Park Sports Centre and the Whistler Conference Centre. Admission is $12.50 per person for advance purchase, with prices increasing on December 30th to $15.
 

Revelstoke

Revelstoke is hosting a FREE family-friendly show, which begins at 8pm from the village and is followed by a midnight fireworks display at Revelation Lodge. The town is also hosting an adult party at the Lodge with champagne reception, dinner buffet, and live music. This event is +19 only with tickets at $75 and available online, from Guest Services and the Sutton Place Hotel Front Desk.
 

Banff

In celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary, Banff is hosting a huge FREE and family-friendly outdoor party in downtown Banff. The event takes place between Buffalo and Wolf Street between 7pm and midnight on New Year’s Eve, featuring street entertainers, children’s activities, food stalls, games, and the midnight firework display.
In partnership with the Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site, Banff is also hosting a FREE ‘Voyageur’s Style’ family-friendly NYE event. Learn about the Canada 150 Voyageur Rendezvous Canoe Race and crawl inside a tipi! Join historical re-enactors of fur traders and Métis trappers at Banff Avenue Square between 7-11pm for a fun and educational evening.
 

Panorama

Panorama Mountain Resort is hosting a New Years Eve Kid’s Party from 5:30-7pm at the resort’s Copper Crown room. Tickets are $10 including tax per head and include a drink, snack and party pack. Children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets can be purchased at Guest Services or by phone at 1-250-341-3044.
There will also be a FREE Torchlight Parade Fireworks Display from 9:15 pm at the base of the Mile 1 Express for all the family.
 

Fernie

Fernie Alpine Resort is hosting a family-friendly event with a variety of FREE family activities at the base area of Mighty Moose from 6pm to 9pm. Enjoy night skiing on the mountain from 4pm-9pm and ring in the New Year with the firework display at 9pm.
 

Sun Peaks

Sun Peaks FREE festivities begin with a demo of advanced skiers and riders in the First Flight Big Air Invitational at the Rockstar Energy Terrain Park from 6:30pm. The Kids Glowstick Parade takes place at 7:45pm on the village platter learning area and this is followed at 8pm by the Torchlight Parade on Sundance ski run, where skiers and boarders descend holding lit torches. The evening culminates in a spectacular fireworks display at 8:30pm.
 

Red Mountain

Red Mountain Resort is hosting fun activities for the whole family to enjoy. From 6-9pm there will be free tobogganing (bring your own), the cafeteria will be open and serving hot chocolate, and there will be a fire pit for roasting marshmallows. A children’s movie will play in the Conference Room before the excitement of the evening’s fireworks at 9:15pm. Night skiing will be free for Day and Season Pass Holders.
 

Kimberley

To celebrate with something different this New Year’s Eve, try Kimberley’s Turkey Run-Off Snowshoe Race. Check-in and late registration begins on site at 10am with the race beginning at 11am at Lois Creek Trail. This event fundraises for Kootenay Orienteering Junior Team, with the goal to locate as many control points as you can in the 90 minute race. Participants receive a map of the Lois Creek Trail System marked with up to easily locatable 16 control points. Teams can include individuals or families, and the entry fee of $10-$15 per individual includes a wiener roast and refreshments, 2017 membership to Kootenay Orienteering Club, and entry to the award ceremony.
