Fernie has a wonderful, diverse culinary scene just waiting to be explored. To ensure visitors and locals alike get the most out of the cuisine this town has to offer, we’ve created a dining guide to some of the best Fernie restaurants.
Visitors to Fernie can experience a fabulous variety of restaurants and cafes serving up delicious food. It won’t really matter what you’re craving, because the selection of cuisine in this small town is endless. Enjoy everything from deep, bold curries to vibrant Japanese, to pub-style dishes and more. Fernie’s atmosphere has the perfect mix – capturing that small mountain town setting, yet feeling like you’re in the middle of a buzzing city with so many options to choose from.
We’ve broken your options down to casual eateries, upscale dining or cafes, so you can filter by the type of ambience you’re looking for. Take a look:
The Brickhouse Bar & Grill
This happening spot for dining and nightlife is located in the former Imperial Bank of Canada building, one of the oldest buildings in downtown Fernie, the former Imperial Bank of Canada building.
The Brickhouse features high brick walls, big wood booths, an open kitchen and live music which gives this old building a modern, hip quality. Owner Matt Brazeau worked with Calgary-based architect Catherine Chernoff to preserve the historical feel of the building, yet create a great space for locals to come together.
After a day of shredding powder or riding Fernie’s awesome mountain biking trails, locals refuel with homemade Canadian cuisine and classic pub food like calamari, nachos, burgers, steaks and thin-crust pizzas. For a creative, vegetarian option, the Sweet and Spicy Fun Guy (portobello mushroom sauteed in maple syrup, served on foccacia bread with asiago cheese) is also a great choice. There’s a different menu and drink special each night of the week, and often live bands or DJs provide background music.
The Brickhouse’s wine list reflects some of BC’s best wines. You can’t go wrong with their selection of local and imported beer, and they have plenty of premium spirits plus quite a few varieties of scotch.
